KOEPKA: MAKE MINE A TREBLE

- BY NEIL MCLEMAN

BROOKS KOEPKA claims he only has to beat 10 players to become the first man since 1956 to win a hat-trick of the same Major title.

The American showed a longawaited return to form with his runner-up finish at the Wgc-fedex St Jude Invitational last weekend, after struggling with a knee injury.

But the world No.6, who is co-coached by Yorkshireman Pete Cowen, always saves his best for the Majors. After leading from start to finish at Bethpage Black last May – despite a final-round wobble – Koepka (lifting the 2019 US PGA trophy, right) said Majors were the easiest tournaments to win.

And before teeing up in San

Francisco, the four-time Major champion and tournament favourite said: “I still feel that way. The way the golf course sets up eliminates pretty much half the guys, and then from there, half of those guys probably won’t play well.

“Then from there, I feel like mentally I can beat them, the other half, so you’ve probably got 10 guys.

“I break things down very easily. Some people make golf a lot more complicated than it should be.”

Jordan Spieth is hoping to make history with a fourth attempt at becoming only the sixth man to complete a career Grand Slam.

The Texan said: “It’s the No.1 goal in the game of golf for me now.”
