RED DWARF: THE FIRST
THREE MILLION YEARS
Dave, 9pm Boldly going where no sitcom has gone before, Red Dwarf has been broadcast since the days when former Corrie star Craig Charles sported dreadlocks and a leather jacket.
This comedy about space layabout Lister (Charles), the last living human, stuck onboard a mining spacecraft with no one for company but hologram Rimmer (Chris Barrie), robot Kryten (Robert Llewellyn) and Cat (Danny John-jules) – a lifeform evolved from a cat – is a cult hit with legions of fans.
Although it’s probably no wonder the BBC turned it down a few times before it finally aired in 1988.
In this entertaining romp through the show’s history, the cast, crew, director Doug Naylor and celeb fans give us their insights.
Danny says: “You never get bored of being in the Dwarf because you never know where they’re going to take you next.”
Craig adds: “Still on board, looking for a way home and a really hot curry.
“Who would have thought it!”
