BRENDAN Grace’s daughter has opened up about the loneliness that has come with her grief after suffering a number of pregnancy losses in the last few years.

Just over a year since the beloved comic passed away after a short battle with cancer, Amanda Grace admitted she found comfort and company in the love and public mourning shown after her dad’s death.

She said: “One of the hardest things about bereavement – in the last couple of years I’ve had a couple of pregnancy losses – is feeling a loneliness.

“It’s happening on the margins and life is just going on.

“When my dad left, he left a void in lots of people’s lives, he left a void in Irish culture and the entertainment industry.

“Many people joined us in that loss and that was a comfort.”

Speaking to Woman’s Way, the former psychotherapist and artist explained: “There was a bit of resentment of people moving on with their lives as if nothing had happened and my world has just been turned upside down.

“But even though dad died, the miracle was that he didn’t suffer.

“He had a peaceful death, he had what is called a triumphant death.”

A MAN was being quizzed by police last night after a pensioner was found beaten to death at home.

The male suspect was arrested after the victim, in her 80s, was assaulted late on Sunday night at the house in Kincora Court in Clontarf, North Dublin.

She was pronounced dead scene.

It is believed the man is related to the victim.

He is currently being detained in Clontarf Garda station, having been arrested on Sunday.

A single officer stood outside the scene yesterday morning.

The Garda Technical Bureau combed the area for much of the morning before leaving shortly before noon.

The red-brick houses are located in a quiet cul-de-sac just off the Clontarf seafront.

A Toyota Auris, believed to belong to the deceased, remained parked outside the house which is cordoned off by police tape.

Rosary beads and a statue of Mother Mary sat on the dashboard of the car.

A local said: “It’s a total shock, it’s such

at the a quiet area. My wife told me this morning and we just couldn’t believe it.

“We didn’t hear anything last night but I noticed the tape this morning and saw the news.

“It goes to show anywhere.”

A local councillor told the Irish Mirror of his shock at hearing news there had been a death.

He said: “This is such a surprise and very unexpected in such a quiet area.

“My thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy.”

A statement from gardai on Sunday evening said: “Gardai are at the scene of a fatal assault which occurred at a house in Kincora Court, Clontarf. “A female received fatal injuries as a result of the incident.”

“A male was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in Clontarf Garda Station.”

The statement concluded: “Investigations are ongoing.”
