‘None of the dinner’ guests wore masks

- BY NEIL LESLIE

A HOLIDAYMAKER who witnessed the Golfgate dinner has described how VIPS wore no masks as they mingled.

The dad blasted the revellers and said he is now wondering if he should quarantine after staying in The Station House Hotel.

He told RTE’S Liveline: “What really maddened me was they were in and out of the reception area with no masks, a law unto themselves.

“The staff wore visors and masks, the other guests wore masks.

“I’ve a young little boy, every time we left the room the last thing he said to us, ‘Have we all got our masks?’

“It just appears it is one law for the elite and one law for the rest of us.”

The guest, who gave his name as Cormac, was concerned after reading one of the Oireachtas Golf Society group former TD Paudge Connolly, had played golf in Spain just days earlier.

Cormac told presenter Katie Hannon: “Now I’m beginning to worry. He came home from Spain, he was in the hotel, I was in the hotel, hundreds of other guests were in the hotel. Should we be isolating?”

Many guests, including EU Commissioner Phil Hogan, said they thought health guidelines were observed.

However, Cormac said it was clear straight away to him something was not right.

He added: “I was there when the minister and his wife arrived. I would have known Dara Calleary.

“I said to my wife ‘there is going to be trouble on this one. This event shouldn’t take place. The minister shouldn’t be here, Phil Hogan shouldn’t be here and the judge shouldn’t be there’.”
