Undertaker hailed hero after rescue
AN UNDERTAKER has been hailed a hero after saving a young girl from drowning.
Aidan Townley said: “I am normally burying people so it’s wonderful to stop someone dying. It makes a welcome change.
The drama happened around 9.30pm on Sunday as he walked home with his wife Sheryl and kids across the Bridge of Peace in Drogheda, Co Louth.
A qualified lifeguard and strong swimmer, Aidan slid down a 40 feet embankment to get into the River Boyne and managed to throw a lifebuoy to the girl and helped rescue her as she struggled in the dark.
Sheryl said: “I am so proud of my husband, he just sprang into action.”
