Jungle Nora’s ‘trail went dead at remote fishing hut’
Malaysia inquest on teen
SNIFFER dogs in Malaysia tracked missing tourist Nora Quoirin’s scent to an abandoned fishing hut near a pond, an inquest heard.
But the trail ended near the dilapidated structure, about a mile from the Duson resort where the 15-year-old, whose mother is from Ireland, was staying with her family.
It is believed Nora, born with neurological disorder holoprosencephaly, died of starvation and stress after six days in the jungle. Her body was found on August 13 last year, 10 days after she vanished. She was naked and half in a stream at the bottom of a rocky slope.
The coroner heard Nora’s scent was picked up by a fence 100 yards from the window she is believed to have climbed out. Police say there was no evidence she was abducted and believe she just wandered off.
Fadzil bin Arshad, of the Fire and Rescue Department, told the inquest: “A scent was detected and continued until an abandoned shack near a fish pond. The trail was lost at the fish pond.” Pathologists say Nora was not physically or sexually assaulted.
Coroner Maimoonah Aid said the Malaysian inquest will determine her cause of death and if “there is any person criminally concerned”. The hearing was adjourned to October 2.
