Letters sale stars Darwin and Dickens
THE signatures of Benjamin Disraeli, Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens are part of a 19th-century collection about to be auctioned.
The lot also includes letters signed by the Duke of Wellington and correspondence from Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V and Victoria, Princess Royal, the Empress of Prussia.
Autograph hunter the Right Rev Rowley Hill, then Bishop of the Isle of Man, wrote to celebrities asking for signatures and photos.
Nigel Kirk, of auctioneers Mellors & Kirk, said: “Autograph collecting was a real passion in Victorian times. It is rare to come across a collection which is completely intact.”
The lot is expected to fetch €6,500 tomorrow.
