Village of Villans

-

THEY live in a village 5,000 miles from Birmingham but this crowd of football fans are Aston Villa crazy.

Devoted members of the 700-strong Ghana Lions club take to the streets of Juaben to sing Villa chants and dance before the Premier League side’s games.

The only supporters’ club in Africa officially recognised by the Villans was formed by Owusu Boayke.

He said: “My love for Aston Villa started because of my grandpa.

“My grandpa’s father lived with some white people and they were from Birmingham. They were Aston Villa fans.

“They used to tell my grandparents more stories and history about the club.”

Owusu said it was his grandfather’s dream to visit

Villa Park, but he never made it before his death 10 years ago.

He said: “I want to do it for my grandpa. It is my dream, my heart’s desire. When we were kids, he used to talk about a certain player called God. He told me that there’s a God in football and his name is Paul Mcgrath. “I inherited doing what he used to do. I formed this fan base always to celebrate Aston Villa. Villa till we die.”
