Man held in murder probe

- BY AILBHE DALY

A MAN was found dead in a house yesterday after a suspected assault.

The body was discovered on Auburn Street in Phibsboro, North Dublin, and gardai were called to the scene after 2pm.

The male, in his 40s, appears to have sustained a number of injuries and may have been the victim of an assault. The injuries, gardai believe, show blunt- force trauma.

It is thought he may have been involved in a fight shortly before his death with a person known to him.

Local man John Keegan told the Irish Mirror: “We’re all shocked, it’s such a quiet area.” A Garda statement read: “The coronor and Office of the State Pathologist have been notified.

“A postmortem will be conducted; the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.”

Last night, gardai arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of murder and he is being quizzed by detectives.
