President Biden ‘ would focus on peace process’
JOE Biden would be “concerned” about Britain honouring the Good Friday Agreement after Brexit, a top ally warned yesterday.
Democratic Senator Chris Coons issued the alert as the White House hopeful prepared to claim victory.
Speaking of Mr Biden’s likely actions if he wins, Mr Coons told the BBC: “I expect he would be concerned about making sure that the Good Friday accords are respected.”
Experts have warned parts of the UK Internal Market Bill could affect post- Brexit customs and trade rules in Northern Ireland, where the Good Friday Agreement was struck in 1998.
Minister Brandon Lewis has admitted the UKIM Bill would let the Government break international law “in a very specific and limited way”.
A No10 spokesman said: “We have been clear for the measures that we have taken in the UKIM Bill.
“But our trade negotiations with the US are progressing at pace.”
The Tory Government still refuses to condemn Mr Trump’s outlandish claims of electoral fraud.
Business minister Nadhim Zahawi told Sky News: “It’s good practice for a British minister and a British Government not to comment on the elections of a great democracy.”
