Covid figures a timely tonic
AS Covid- 19 case numbers appear to be heading in the right direction there’s good news on the healthcare frontlines too.
Hospital and intensive care admissions and deaths have plummeted in the second wave.
Figures from the Central Statistics Office show average hospital admissions for the disease over the past three months was less than 50 people per 1,000 cases.
This is in contrast to the peak of the disease in March when there were 192 hospitalisations for every 1,000 infections.
Deaths have also dropped in this second wave from 74 per 1,000 in March to three in October.
As Ta o i s e a c h Mich e a l Mar t i n hi nt e d yesterday – if the Level 5 restrictions work as intended we may have a semblance of a normal Christmas.
