Another eight deaths & 499 new infections

EIGHT more people have died and there are 499 new cases of coronaviru­s in Ireland despite positive signs in fighting the disease.

The 14- day incidence rate per 100,000 population has dropped below 200 to 196.4.

Case numbers continue to decline with 2,546 fewer confirmed in the week to October 30 in comparison to the previous seven days.

Of the 3,881 infections that week, 126 were admitted to hospital and less than five people ended up in intensive care units.

A total of 292 Covid patients were in hospital yesterday, 37 of whom were in ICU.

The latest figures show 175 new cases in Dublin, 72 in Cork, 29 in Limerick, 26 in Mayo, 21 in Meath and the remaining 176 spread across 19 other counties.

Since the start of the pandemic there have been 1,940 Covid- linked fatalities in Ireland and 64,538 infections.
