PRIMOZ PROVING HE IS THE VUELTA BELTER

DEFENDING champion Primoz Roglic strengthened his grip on the Vuelta a Espana after finishing second in stage 16 at Ciudad Rodrigo.

The Tour de France runner- up ( right) was pipped by stage winner Magnus Cort in a sprint finish but picked up six bonus seconds to extend his lead to 45 seconds over ver Richard Carapaz, with Britain’s Hugh Carthy 53 seconds back in third.

Roglic now only needs to negotiate today’s mountain stage prior to the ceremonial finish in Madrid tomorrow.
