MORELOS FORM A HUGE BOOST FOR RANGERS
Rangers v Hamilton Ibrox, tomorrow, 3pm
STEVEN GERRARD reckons Alfredo Morelos has got his hunger back and is dreaming of a goal feast in the Champions League.
The Rangers hitman smashed club legend’s Ally Mccoist’s European haul record with goal No 22 in Thursday’s 3- 3 thriller with Benfica.
Morelos looked back to his best after an uncertain summer as Gers slipped up late on in Portugal but remained out in front in Europa League Group D.
Gerrard believes there is more to come from the star striker – who has a burning desire to hit the net with Gers at the very highest level.
The Ibrox boss ( inset) said: “He was very happy after the game about his record- breaking achievement.
“I think he’s got his hunger back and you can see it in his eyes, he wants to go and score more goals in the competition.
“I know he’s got dreams and aspirations of playing in the Champions League one day, which is good for him.
“In terms of where he’s at, the goals are back, the hunger is back, the sharpness is back.
“I don’t really like comparing him to the Alfredo of old because it’s about the now and what he is offering moving forward.
“But he’s definitely in a better place in terms of his form and how he looks. He’s smiling and seems happy, which is fantastic for everyone connected with Rangers.”
Gerrard – who was named manager of the month for October – insisted his side are firing and he believes key men such as Steven Davis are leading from the front.
He said: “Steven is in good form. I think he has been since we returned from lockdown.
“You always wonder when players are at that age and they have such a long time off with the lockdown what are they going to be like when they return. “But with his professionalism, his attitude and his application, he has come back in unbelievable shape and he’s built on that, which has shown in his performances.
Davis – who turns 36 in January – is out of contract at the end of the season – with Jermain Defoe, Allan Mcgregor, Leon Balogun and Greg Stewart in the same boat.
But Gerrard said: “I think about my players non- stop, around the clock, every minute of every day, all of them.
“There are certain individuals that are up at the end of the season and when the time is right we’ll discuss their futures with them in private and if there’s any news we’ll update you on that.”
Defoe is back after sitting out Benfica but suspended covid duo Jordan Jones and George
Edmundson are out.
