SF: LEO NO CONFIDENCE MOTION IS VERY SERIOUS
Mcdonald in bid to stop ‘ old boys network’
MARY Lou Mcdonald insisted yesterday her party isn’t looking to score points or engage in mudslinging with the Government.
Sinn Fein is keeping up the pressure on Leo Varadkar as the Dail prepares to debate a motion of no confidence in the Tanaiste
Ms Mcdonald said she wants to put a stop to the “entitled, obnoxious” politics displayed by Fine Gael and their Government colleagues.
Last week, Mr Varadkar spoke to his Dail colleagues in relation to his leaking of a GP contract to a friend of his during his time as Taoiseach. Ms Mcdonald
yesterday defended her party’s decision to propose the motion of no confidence in the Tanaiste.
The Sinn Fein leader told RTE Radio One’s This Week: “We haven’t had a very stable Government from Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and the Greens over the
PRESSURE Tanaiste Varadkar V
l ast number of months. It’s been an administration marked by controversy and incompetence.
“However, our confidence motion is a very serious act by us.
“It’s not simply a matter of looking to score points or mud- sling, as the
Government would have it. We would regard these matters as very serious. Leo Varadkar, by his own admission, leaked confidential information to a friend of his while he was Taoiseach.
“S o as t he Opposition , t he only sanction available to us i s to table a no confidence motion.”
Ms Mcdonald said Mr Varadkar’s actions speak of the sort of politics that has led to the housing and healthcare crises Ireland is currently facing.
She added: “People understand the politics of the nod and wink, the insiders, the cosy clubs, the old boys’ network – call it what you will – has a cost, has a price.”
