Garda dog Rex on tail of criminals with third ‘ drugs’ bust in just 8 days
IRELAND’S most adorable Garda is surely in line for a big promotion after making his third suspected drugs bust in the space of eight days.
Rex may l ook s oft on t he outside, but he’s got Cork’s drug dealers cowering in fear as his amazing nose knows no limits.
On Friday, he was sniffing out a house in West Cork, and his fine instincts led to the discovery o f m o r e t h a n € 27,000 of suspected cannabis as well as a s mal l a mount of suspected ecstasy.
The find came as g a r d a i mov e d i n on the house j ust outside Dunmanway b e f o r e R e x g a v e them the nod there was something fishy going on in the attic.
And that’s when the massive discovery was made.
There’s been no arrests as of yet but gardai say they ’re f ol l owing a def i ni t e l i n e of enquiry.
They added: “Gardai have seized over € 27,000 of suspected drugs following a search in West Cork on Friday.
“Just after 6pm gardai from the West Cork Divisional Drugs, assisted by the Southern Region
Dog Unit, executed a search warrant at a house just outside of Dunmanway Town.
“During t he course of t he search, Garda Dog Rex indicated t o h i s h a n d l e r t h e r e wa s s omething i n t he atti c t hat warranted further inspection.
“As a result, gardai found a grow house which contained € 16,800 of suspected cannabis pl ant s at v ar i ous st a ge s of growth, € 10,500 of suspected cannabis herb and € 175 of suspected ecstasy.
“G a r d a i a l s o sei zed f ans, l i ghts and a v enti l ati on system.
“No arrests have been made but they are following a definite line of enquiry.”
T h e b u s t i s nothing new for Rex as on November 1 he nabbed € 8 , 4 0 0 wor t h of s u s p e c t e d cocaine in Cork city while two days before t hat he was i n Mal l ow di g g i ng up € 1 6 , 0 0 0 worth of suspected coke there.
And it was only last February the cl ever hound helped get € 53, 000 worth of susp ect ed heroin off the streets after joining a team of gardai from Blarney and Cork in the Grenagh area.
