start on Thursday. It will be a uni qu e Mast er s , with no p a t r o n s a n d n o S u n d ay afternoon roar.

“There’s no other place like it. It echos there, it travels,” said Woods.

B u t o n e t r a d i t i o n – t o m o r r o w ’s C h a m p i o n s Dinner, hosted by Woods – will survive, albeit in sociallydistanced form.

“We’re not going to have as many of the past champions, which is a shame, but this is unlike any time we’ve ever had in the past so we’ve got to do what we can do to have the traditions that we’d li ke to have but also maintain safety guidelines,” said Woods.

ROBERT MACINTYRE revealed how he had struggled to deal with the coronavirus lockdown after claiming his first European Tour title in the Cyprus Showdown.

The Scot birdied four of his last six holes to card a sevenunder- par 64 and finish a shot ahead of Masahiro Kawamura.

The 24- year- old, who banks the first prize of £ 180,000, was inches away from a hole- in- one on the 17th and tapped in for birdie to briefly take the outright lead, before Kawamura birdied the 18th to complete a 65. That left Macintyre ( above) needing to birdie the last to win and he followed a perfect drive with a solid approach, before safely two- putting from 20 feet to secure victory.

“It’s been a tough lockdown for me and the family,” he said.

“I’ve struggled mentally and didn’t have the motivation for a while. I wasn’t enjoying it, but I got the bug back and to get over the line means the world.”
