MONCUR IS FINALLY ON THE MONEY

- BY ADAM LANIGAN

THE penny has dropped for George Moncur on what is required to become an established Championship player.

The midfielder ( above) has come into the side for Luton’s last two games and his

21st- minute opener here was his first goal since December 2019.

But Moncur is just as concerned about what he does without the ball. The former West Ham academy player admits that to stay at the Hatters, he must embrace his defensive duties.

“I really want to be here,” said the 27- year- old. “All my career hasn’t really worked out consistently anywhere. I’m going to see what I can affect now in terms of defending and see where it gets me.

“Years have gone by where I haven’t really knuckled down on that and it’s let me down. Maybe it’s a bit late but now the penny has dropped and I’ll just keep going and see if I can improve.”

Moncur is getting plenty of help from boss Nathan Jones. He added: “It’s about changing my mindset and always being switched on. The manager is always on my case and I need that otherwise I’ll switch off.”

The Hatters were denied all three points when Carel Eiting levelled for Huddersfield on the hour. It was a first goal in English footballer for the Dutch midfielder, who is on a seasonlong loan from Ajax.

Eiting believes finding a killer instinct is the key for the

Terriers. “In a lot of games, we’ve dominated the ball but maybe not created enough chances,” he said. “Sometimes if you only score one, it’s not enough.” HUDDERSFIELD: Hamer 6, Pipa 6 ( Duhaney 90), Stearman 7, Sarr 6, Toffolo 7, Hogg 6, Diakhaby 6 ( Schindler 66, 4), O’brien 6, Eiting 8, Koroma 6 ( Ward 82), Campbell 6 LUTON: Sluga 6, Pearson 7, Rea 6, Bradley 6, Cranie 6, Dewsbury- Hall 6, Cornick 5 ( Lualua 73, 7), Berry 6 ( Tunnicliffe 77, 6), Mpanzu 7, Moncur 6 ( Bree 60, 4), Collins 5
