JURGEN KLOPP said he and his Liverpool team are counting the hours and minutes before they can celebrate a special story with their fans.

The Anfield manager claimed that one of the hardest parts of Liverpool’s first title win in 30 years was having to do it without the backing of supporters.

“Not having the fans in the stadium is absolutely sad and disappointing but you cannot change it, you just have to accept it carry and on, and that’s what we do,” the German ( below) said.

“But we are counting the days and the hours and the minutes utes and the seconds until they can come me back and we can have our normal life again.”

The Reds boss spoke with real emotion as he accepted the Sports Journalist Association’s award for Sports Team of the Year, saying his “exceptional team, really deserved it, for a pretty exceptional season and exceptional year”.

And Klopp believes the fighting spirit his side has shown, and their refusal to be beaten – even after the heartbreak of missing out on the title to Manchester City by a single point in 2019 – makes them truly special.

“I am not sure we have enough time to talk about what makes them exceptional. But the way they deal with everything makes them so exceptional,” he said.

“For not accepting setbacks, for fighting back when it would be easy to say ‘ It’s too much, we don’t want it any more...’ they really deserve this award.

“Missing the big opportunity a year before by one point in an exceptional season against an exceptional opponent was really hard to take. But I am really proud of the way the boys did it.”

And Klopp says he feels blessed to work with the Liverpool squad.

“A lot of good things must have happened in my life that I could get the chance to work with these special players, and then be part of a really special story,” sto he said. “I am very, very tha thankful for t that and very proud of the boys.”

Klopp w was keen to e ensure his An Anfield squad got fu full credit for the team award by insisting that no manager could ever lift the

Premier League title without a remarkable team at his disposal.

“If you would know my personal story, then there would not be a lot of people who ever thought it would be possible for me to be involved in something like that ( winning the title),” he added.

“We were very keen to win that title. But being keen doesn’t make it any difference because, without the right players, you go completely unarmed in a proper battle, so I am really blessed with sensational players.”
