Where is the adultery capital of Ireland?

Cork set to be the love cheat capital of Europe ... and world, say figures

ADULTERY appears to be growing faster in Cork than anywhere else in Europe, according to figures from an infamous global dating site for love cheats.

Ashley Madison, whose motto is “Life is short, have an affair”, has reported a sharp increase in sign- ups from Ireland this year compared to 2019, with numbers from the Rebel County poised to surge by 1,500%.

Although traffic to the extra- marital affairs service dipped in the first couple of months of the pandemic, since May the number of signups from Ireland has been rising by an average of 50% every month.

Regionally, there are huge differences in growth rates, with Cork setting the pace with a 126% month- on- month increase since May, followed by Galway at 44% and Dublin at 28%.

PERIOD

October and November of this year have been the busiest period of 2020 to date, with an average of 1,800 sign- ups from Ireland in each of those months.

But the monthly percentage growth of 86% nationally over these two months is again dwarfed by the figures on Leeside, where monthly sign- ups rocketed by 187%.

If trends continue, Cork is poised to record about 1,800 new sign- ups by the year end – an increase from 2019 which saw just 124 new Cork- based members for the whole year.

Ireland as a whole is expected to top 17,000 sign- ups by the end of 2020, which represents an increase of 13,000 from 2019.

Christoph Kraemer, managing director of the ser vice’s European operation, said: “If the trend continues throughout December, this would in all likelihood make Cork the champion city in Europe, maybe even the world, in terms of adultery.”
