O'Connor: Let's strut our stuff

Kerry v Antrim Sunday, Croke Park, 1pm

KERRY manager Fintan O’connor is hoping his side do themselves justice in Croke Park as they take on Antrim for the fourth time this year.

However, injuries have hit the side hard and captain Bryan Murphy may not be fit to start.

“His situation is still a bit up in the air because his hand was still in a cast last weekend,” said O’connor. “He got it off on Tuesday. We will be able to see how well he can puck the ball before we make a final call on his fitness.

“So we are not sure yet about Bryan but for his own sake, we are hoping that he will be able to play some part in the game unlike Martin Stackpoole (broken wrist) and John Buckley (hamstring tear), who will not be involved because of injury. ”

O’connor is delighted that the game is being televised live on RTE 2.

“It’s a massive day for the lads and it’s something they are looking forward to, to showcase what they can do. Look, we have been chirping on about how good they are and how skilful they are and I am sure the Antrim lads are looking forward to it as well.

“Its brilliant that the Joe Mcdonagh gets to showcase the quality it has to offer. Winning it would be huge and both teams will have their eyes on the prize more than anything else.

“Winning the Joe Mcdonagh and being presented with a cup is a prize in itself, but obviously going up and playing in Leinster next year and pitching yourself against Kilkenny, Galway or Wexford next year will be a massive carrot for both teams.”
