NATHANIEL CHALOBAH says the “best is yet to come” from hit- and- miss Watford – and that is certainly true of their dismal away form.

On the road, Watford have been lethargic and dull. Yet they are still within a point of the automatic promotion places and, sooner or l ater, they are due to unfurl a greater sense of adventure.

Birmingham are next to put

Watford’s enterprise to the test at St Andrew’s. And England one- cap wonder Chalobah, 25, believes Ivic’s joyless travellers must be prepared to “do it ugly” if they are to improve on a poor return of three goals in eight away games.

The midfielder said: “The best i s y e t t o c o m e . I n t h e Championship, teams are going to have opportunities, so the most important thing is concentration. We’ve got to stay in games and try and get the points we need.

“The most important thing, as a squad, is that if we cannot play our best and still get results, then that’s a good sign and hopefully means there are good things to come.”

Watford picked up their seventh win i n nine matches against Rotherham at Vicarage Road in midweek, the first points fans had s e e n I v i c c o l l e c t s i n c e h i s appointment in August.

Chalobah said: “Just to hear some noise, whether it was good or bad , y o u c a n f e e l t h a t a t m o s p h e r e .

T h e r e w e r e o n l y 2 , 0 0 0 p e o p l e t h e r e but it was brilliant.”

He said: “We want to be first – we have not been first since the beginning of the s e a s on a nd t hat ’s t h e objective: to be first at the end of the season.

“With the squad we have, I don’t just want to be promoted. I want to be the champions.”
