Pub closed down as food room had no running water
Safety officials inspection finds hygiene law breach
A PUB was closed down because it was found to have no running hot or cold water in the area for cleaning food or in the staff toilets.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland said a closure order was issued against the Hayloft Bar in Bridge Street, Farnbeg, Strokestown, Co Roscommon.
It was also discovered the pub did not have the necessary facilities there to ensure the food produced was protected against contamination.
The closure order lasted from December 11 until December 21.
The FSAI also revealed there was a huge drop in the number of enforcement orders issued against food businesses for breaches of
safety l aws but this was mostly down to the coronavirus.
In all, 42 orders were served last year, a decrease of 67% compared to 125 the previous year.
The FSAI said this i s because large numbers of food service businesses were temporarily closed for long periods throughout the year, and i s not necessarily due t o improved food safety practices. The FSAI said the types of the issues that led to Enforcement Orders included unregistered and unsuper vised food businesses; f i lthy conditions; rodent infestations and droppings and cockroaches.
Its chief executive Dr Pamela Byrne said: “While in a normal year it would be very encouraging to see such a substantial drop in enforcement orders, in 2020, however it is likely most of the reduction reflects the temporary closure of food businesses for many months due to Covid- 19 restrictions.
“Notwithstanding this, 42 orders are still too many, as it shows that, unfortunately, there continues to be a minority of businesses not complying with legal requirements.”
