MODERN grandparents love rocking out to heavy metal more than rocking in chairs, a poll reveals.

The survey found grandmas and grandpas are into bands such as Guns N’ Roses, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin – of Stairway To Heaven fame – rather than listening to jazz or classical.

The lively generation of “bold age pensioners” are tech-savvy too, with three quarters on Facebook, a quarter with Instagram accounts and almost half regular Youtube viewers. Four in 10 reckon their grandchildren don’t even see them as “old people”.

But according to the research by Oak Tree Mobility, a third would love to time-travel back to when they were 21.

Former car worker turned actor Jack Warner, 84, the face of Oak Tree Mobility, said: “Age is definitely a mindset – you mustn’t sit down and give in to it. My philosophy is ‘keep young and carry on’ which I intend to do for many more years to come.”

The go-getting great-grandfather from Alton, Hants, signed for his first acting agency at the age of 63.

He said: “I noticed that a few of my retired friends were happy to sit and take life easy and I thought, ‘There’s no way I’m doing that’. Knowing how much I enjoyed acting, my wife... encouraged me to speak to an agent.”

Verity Kick, of Oak Tree Mobility, added: “Taking care of joints and looking after your overall health and wellbeing in younger years is key and will pay dividends when you get older.

“Mobility will become one thing you can’t take for granted.”
