Dani: Baby blues are real

After 10 days suffering from the “baby blues”, is on a mission to help other struggling new mums.

“As long as your baby’s here, safe and sound, you’re doing a good job,” she advises, warmly.

She has struggled emotionally since having son Santiago in an emergency C-section and then having difficulty breastfeeding.

“Some people’s boobs are like udders,” says Dani, 24. “Mine take a bit of time. It’s been

hard – the baby blues are real. Why do I want to cry? I just want to sob.

“You’re constantly thinking: ‘Am I doing enough? Am I doing it right?’

“Breastfeeding’s hard. I had to have a caesarean and I was crying about that – I never wanted a C-section, it was never in my birth plan, so I started feeling like a failure. It’s ridiculous, your hormones are everywhere.”

Santi had his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and midwives advised the op as he was getting stressed through the difficult contractions.

Love Islander Dani admits she was “shuddering” with fear, and found the experience of being paralysed “horrible” but recognised Santi was reluctant to come out.

“Didn’t fancy it? I don’t blame him,” laughs her dad, Danny.

“There’s a pandemic going on, Jesus Christ, everyone’s locked in their house...

“I get it. He’s like, hold up, I’ll wait in here another month.”

Eastenders actor Danny Dyer said he and wife Jo Mas could not be with Dani as she gave birth during lockdown.

The pair were “buzzing” as they were told of the arrival by Dani’s boyfriend Sammy Kimmence.

Danny, 42, adds: “It was strange energy all day – there was a lot of pacing.” They have since bubbled together so they can help Dani recover from her operation.
