Former Olympian athlete and Ireland’s Fittest Family coach Derval O’rourke has revealed her top tips on battling the bulge and getting fit in lockdown. The Cork native is the leading judge on the hit RTE show with her four families still in the running to win.

The 39-year old is inspiring the nation to a healthier way of life with her site Derval.ie.

Derval told the Irish Mirror: “The site has been great during lockdown, people are so isolated, so it’s a bit of connection.

“We’re doing way more lives than we ever did, I’m on live every Sunday night.

“We’ve had a live workout on a Monday night, Tuesday a nutritional talk. On Wednesday we do mindfulness with Michelle O’driscoll.

“Michelle is a pharmacist by trade and then went back to do a PHD in stress management and mindfulness.”

The mum-of-two said her recipes and workouts are designed with busy families in mind.

She said: “After I retired and I had my first child I realised, Oh my God I’ve no time, so recipes had to start being so practical.

She added: “With the site, I try to create recipes that are simple and quick.”

Tracking your food and setting goals in a journal is a great way to stay on top of your fitness journey.

She added: “I designed my Healthy Lifestyle Journal (inset) during Fittest Families, that’s how I did it because we’re on set for 16 hours so there was

time.

“It’s great to keep track of your new healthy habits and to set goals. The first thing to start with are your main meals and work back from there.
