Most workers take family care leave

- BY TREVOR QUINN

ALMOST two-thirds of firms have seen a “significant or small” increase in women taking leave to care for adults and kids, a survey revealed yesterday.

And 45% of those asked felt caring responsibilities would affect their career advancement.

Mary Connaughton, the director of HR and learning and development group CIPD Ireland who carried out the study, said: “The caring they need to do can get in the way of their job when they’re working from home, but it also makes it more difficult for them to get back to the workplace.

“Employers really need to show as much flexibility and consideration as they can. For now, we can hope the phased re-opening of schools will alleviate some of the pressure.”

EXPECTANT mum Lottie Ryan already knows the gender of her baby.

The 2fm star shared a series of pictures on her social media fans have been eagerly looking for clues.

Lottie shared a series of her nursery inspiration pics, along with a pink heart, leading fans to wonder if she is having a little girl.

She and husband Fabio Aprile have held a virtual gender reveal party with both their families.

THE trial date was set yesterday for a man accused of murdering a grandmother almost two years ago.

William Stephen Hutchinson, 44, formerly of Kilbroney House in Belfast’s Cregagh estate, was ordered to stand trial on June 8 this year.

In January 2020, he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment hearing to the murder of East Belfast woman Alice Morrow.

The case would have been heard before a jury at Downpatrick Crown Court but due to the pandemic will now take place at Belfast Crown Court.

Mr Justice O’hara said he would review the case in May over progress on a consultant neuro-pyschologist’s report.
