NICOLA Coughlan hit back at a podcast host who called her “the fat girl from Bridgerton” saying: ‘I have a name’.

The Derry Girls star pulled out all the stops at the weekend to celebrate the Golden Globes virtual red carpet.

She oozed Bridgerton opulence dressed in a yellow dress by Molly Goddard, paired with a black cardigan.

While many rushed to compliment the actor’s look online, including the designer herself, a body-shaming comment from host Amanda Richards, who presents the Big Calf podcast sparked fury from Coughlan and fans.

Richards wrote: “The fat girl from Bridgerton is wearing a black cardigan at the Golden Globes [because] no matter how hot and stylish you are.

“If you’re a fat girl there will always be a black cardigan you think about wearing, then decide against, but ultimately wear

I thought the cardi looked fab. And I have a name NICOLA COUGHLAN TWITTER YESTERDAY

Hitting back, Coughlan, who has won universal praise and acclaim for her role as Penelope Featherington in the Netflix hit Bridgerton, replied to the tweet: “I thought the cardigan looked ace, Molly Goddard used them on her runway with the dresses that’s where the idea came from.

“Also I have a name.”

The Galway-born actress has called for the end of body shaming and judging within the industry in the past and reshared an old article she wrote for The Guardian, entitled: ‘Critics, judge me for my work in Derry Girls and on the stage, not on my body’.

She said: “Can we judge actors for their work and not their bodies?

Coughlan, best known as Wee Clare Devlin in the hit Channel Four comedy, originally wrote the piece in 2018 after a reviewer had also chosen to make comments about her appearance in a play she was starring in.
