Bored Irish couples in lockdown sex rut

STEAMY SURVEY

- BY CATHAL AUSTIN news@irishmirror.ie

MORE than half of Irish couples are stuck in a “sex rut”, according to a study that said boring sexual routines are a key sign of the problem.

The research found that 54% of couples lost the spark a year into a relationship with routines that they rarely changed.

The study by Illicit Encounters also revealed that more Irish women (58%) than men (46%) moan about being a lack of passion with their partner and long for more adventurous sex.

It said: “The most striking sign that you are stuck in a sex rut as a couple is if you always have sex in bed and never venture outside or enjoy passion in other parts of the house.

“The second most common sign is you have sex on exactly the same day every week most commonly on a Saturday or Sunday.

“The third most common sign is that you reminisce about sexual encounters from the past with a previous lover which are more exciting than your current sex life.”

The affairs site has seen a 14% rise in activity in Ireland since lockdown because so many people have “become bored with their partners”.

EXPLOSION

It is expecting an affairs “explosion” in the spring when everyone over 50 and in vulnerable groups have been vaccinated.

Illicitencounters.com sex and relationship expert, Jessica Leoni, said: “Who hasn’t settled into a sex rut with a partner they have been with for a long time?

“You both know what you like and you both end up going through the motions once you have been together for a while.

“Lots of people are perfectly happy to be stuck in a sex rut but many others want more and end up cheating on partners.”

One website user from Dublin began cheating on her husband after they got stuck in a sex rut.

She said: “I have been with him since we were teenagers and I have never wanted to leave him.

“But I knew I needed to branch out a little when our sex life became about as exciting as being stuck in a traffic jam.

“We had developed this routine where we would have sex at the same time, in the same position, and in the same way every week.

“We used to mix things up and try different things but that all became too much of an effort and it was easier for both of us to stick to our routine.” A friend of hers had been meeting married men for a while on Illicitencounters. com and suggested she do the same.

She said: “I had always got a lot of attention from men when I was working on the flights before lockdown, so I knew that I would get a good response. I had several offers of affairs after posting a profile and eventually chose a bookmaker whose marriage had also got a little dull.

“We flirted at first and enjoyed some Zoom sex where we both stripped off and talked dirty to each other.

“That was incredibly exciting. We first had sex last week as the vaccine roll-out has accelerated in Ireland.

“He is only the third guy I have ever slept with but I loved the thrill of having sex with someone new.

“I will definitely have more affairs when this crisis is finally over in the summer.”
