I WANT A BABY BUT WE’VE ONLY JUST MET

Dear Coleen

-

I’m 29 and I’ve been going out with my boyfriend for five months and I already want a baby with him. I can’t explain it, but something just feels right in a way I’ve never felt before.

In past relationships I’ve either not been that into them, or we’ve argued all the time, or there’s been some other problem like them cheating on me or me feeling insecure. But there has been none of that this time.

We have the same sense of humour, lots of shared friends and there’s just so much fun between us, and I trust him completely. I know he’s my soulmate and that we’ll grow old together.

I know it’s only been five months but I really want to start trying for a baby. Is it too soon? What do you think?

Coleen says

Well listen, I’m a fine one to talk. I met my second husband and eight weeks later I was pregnant with our daughter. But what I will say is, you’re still so young to start trying for a baby.

Why not wait a year? I know I can’t preach that it’s too soon because of what I did. But what I realised after my ex and I broke up was that for a long time it was our daughter keeping us together. However, when she got to an age where she wasn’t as reliant on us, I realised things were not right between us.

I can’t look back and say I should have waited, because of our lovely daughter. But it sounds like you’re having such a great time. Why not enjoy each other without the pressure and hard work that a baby brings, even for another six months?

If he is your soulmate, then what’s the rush?
