WIN AND WE BREAK YOU!
Gers legend Mccoist’s warning for Celts
ALLY MCCOIST reckons Rangers have planted seeds of doubt into Celtic this season by taking their title.
Now the ex-ibrox gaffer believes Steven Gerrard (inset) and his troops can put worry and fear into their rivals for next term as well if they can win the Scottish
Cup derby and go onto complete a
Double.
Mccoist has no doubts about the significance of this weekend’s vital last
16 tie.
The former Light Blues boss and striker says markers have already been set by Rangers this season, yet additional success could slam more into the turf which could have a psychological effect beyond it.
Mccoist knows Rangers winning the title has shifted momentum between the clubs for now, but feels adding a second major trophy will help do the same thing for the future and have Celtic worried looking into 2021/22.
He explained: “Rangers have a real opportunity. The league campaign was always the big one this year and they have thoroughly deserved it.
“But what an opportunity to go and get a league and cup Double and, at the same time, maybe put a marker down.
“All of a sudden, if Rangers go and win the league and cup double, incoming Celtic players are thinking, ‘Have Rangers got the sign over them?
“It is such an important thing because if you are a Celtic player you do not want to go through the summer thinking they have just won the Double. We might have one or two players going out, one or two coming in, and you start asking yourself questions.
“Flip it over. If Celtic win the game, John Kennedy (below) can think this team has a chance of winning the cup. OK, we did not perform in the league, but we are not as bad as everyone thinks. But from Steven’s point of view, what an opportunity to put a marker down. Now they have the opportunity to go through the league undefeated and if they can go and win the cup double, then it has been a tremendous season.
“Celtic have had complete dominance in terms of domestic trophies in recent years and a league and cup double [ for Rangers] after so long without
BEST OF ENEMIES Kris Ajer and Connor Goldson will do battle again on Sunday in the Scottish Cup any real success at the top level domestically will be invaluable.
“The boys can go away and have a break and look forward to the start of next season.
“The effect that this particular game can have at the weekend is massive.”
