A GIRL of three tragically died yesterday after she was knocked down by a bus.

It is understood the child had been playing near her home when the crash occurred at about 4pm.

She was fatally injured in the horrific crash in the Castle Heights housing estate in Carrick-on-suir, Co Tipperary, and she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the bus involved in the tragedy was treated at the scene

Local Sinn Fein councillor David Dunne said: “It’s unbelievable. I’d like to offer my sincere condolences to the family and my heart goes out to them – and to all the Eastern European community from Carrick-on-suir and for all the people who have been affected by this tragedy.

“They would be a well-known family within the Eastern European community here and local people are shocked.”

The scene was preserved yesterday by gardai ahead of a forensic examination. Meanwhile, officers in the town appealed to witnesses or anyone with mobile phone or dashcam footage to contact them.

A spokesman said: “Gardai in Carrickon-suir are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in the Castle Heights housing estate, Carrick-on-suir, this afternoon Tuesday 13th April, 2021 at approximately 4pm.
