ALLY FURY AT VIDEO ABUSE OF LENNON

Rangers icon slams ‘privacy invasion’

FURIOUS Rangers legend Ally Mccoist has slammed the individual who filmed and verbally abused former Celtic manager Neil Lennon as a “disgrace”.

A video of the Irishman that is believed to have been taken in England on Monday has been widely circulated online.

A man filming can be heard shouting “See you Neil, you ginger c***”, in the direction of Lennon.

Mccoist maintains friendly relations with the 49-year-old despite battles over the years having been at the helm of Glasgow’s biggest clubs at the same time.

And the Rangers legend, 57, admits he was appalled at the “invasion of privacy”.

He said on TALKSPORT: “It shouldn’t be allowed, it simply shouldn’t be allowed.

“It’s a complete and utter invasion of his privacy. It’s as simple as that.

“And by the way, there but for the grace of God. I have been worse for wear with alcohol and it looks as though that’s been the case with Neil here.

“I have been there so I’m not going to preach to anybody about it but what I will say is I think the invasion of his privacy is a disgrace. I cannot for the life of me... That is one of the worst inventions in the world, the camera phone.

“It gives people the opportunity to take absolute liberties and it’s a scandal.

“I just find it unbelievable that anybody in a situation where somebody needs help would film it rather than help. What’s that all about?”

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend said the video was a “low point”.

He added: “Videos like that is where you kind of lose faith in fellow mankind.

“Some retweets, some likes. Five minutes of fame is more important to people than actually helping a man who has clearly had one too many.”

And Motherwell winger Steven Lawless described the person filming the video as a “mad creep”.

He said: “Big deal if Neil Lennon went out and had one too many – let the guy have a life away from football. It’s the mad creep recording him that’s the worry.”

Lennon quit as manager at Celtic Park in late February. Celtic were 18 points adrift in the Scottish Premiership of Rangers, who have gone on to secure the title under Steven Gerrard.
