Jabs for the boys
Men keen to get the needle
AFTER new photos surfaced of Simon Cowell’s plumped up face, its time to take a closer look at the growing male love affair with cosmetic jabs.
Although women still make up the majority of these procedures, many famous faces are starting to jump on the bandwagon.
And leading Irish aesthetic clinic SISU said upwards of 30% of their patients are now men.
The most popular injectable treatment among those is Botox, also known as “Brotox” or “Mantox”.
Co-founder Dr Brian Cotter told Irish Daily Mirror: “They are having more than just botox treatments.
To delve deeper into the rising popularity, we asked him for some of the roots behind the growing love affair with aesthetics among men.
■ Tired times – There is no gym for the face, and the aesthetic medical doctor said many just want TREND Dr Cotter to boost the tired look on their faces.
■ Sharpen and soften – The second demographic they are seeing is guys in their early or mid 40s. Dr Brian said: “They just want to look fresher and sharper.”
■ Look as young as you feel – “Others then, like I had one person today, and he said that it was how he looks and how he feels or thinks are not the same.”
■ Zoom boom – After days spent staring at our reflection through a screen, Dr Brian has noticed an increase in those looking to update their looks.
■ More information, more demand – But due to more information on the aesthetic treatments available, Dr Brian said people are becoming more comfortable to seek out some treatment.
■ Getting younger – The doctor also noted how his clientele is getting much younger, compared to the early days. He said: “The average age for us is about 29/30. So people are getting
this earlier.”
