The killer’s coming home
SKY ONE, 9pm
MICHAEL Sheen and his equally excellent mane of hair return for a second run of this hit psychological drama.
He plays notorious serial killer Dr Martin Whitly, known as The Surgeon, for grisly reasons that are all too obvious.
In a classic twist, his son Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) is a criminal profiler for the NYPD, helping the New York Police Department solve the most vicious and puzzling of murders.
Having a personal insight into a killer’s mind certainly helps with the day job.
After Malcolm’s sister’s shocking actions in the season one finale, Malcolm’s personal life is torn to pieces.
Now he must “take care” of her and protect his mother from a secret that could tear the family apart all over again.
This episode starts with Malcolm standing on the edge of a very tall building. “Sorry, this ledge is taken,” he tells the man who appears out of the window.
He starts to unload his mental health problems, before we realise that nothing is as it seems with this apparent queue of suicidal men.
Meanwhile, Malcom receives a phone call from his dad from prison. “My boy,” says Whitly, “It’s your father. I have sensational news. I’m heading home!”
And elsewhere, Malcolm’s mother (Bellamy Young) has plenty of issues of her own – none of which have been helped by lockdown.
This is high-adrenalin, fast-paced action – also co-starring Catherine Zeta-jones and Aurora Perrineau – which is as funny as it is ghoulish in parts, with a dysfunctional family, plenty of murder cases and a cast that’s clearly having a ball.
