Tartan striker Adams believes Clarke’s men can break new ground and reach knockout stages
CHE ADAMS insists Scotland boast the firepower to blast their way out of the group stage at the Euros – and into the Hampden history books.
The Southampton striker will be out to shoot down the Czech Republic on Monday when Steve Clarke’s bid begin their campaign.
Adams, who scored his second goal in just four international games in Sunday’s 1-0 friendly win over Luxembourg, admits the Scots should have been more prolific.
But he is in bullish mood and convinced that Scotland have the quality to break new ground by reaching the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time.
Adams said: “I think we have a good enough team and squad to let everyone know we are there to win games and not just be a part of it. We can make history.
“It looks a difficult group, but it’s all about momentum in these competitions. If you win one, who knows what could happen?
“We have to build ourselves up in the right way, and go out to show people what we can do.
“Will we be daunted? No, not really. With the squad we’ve got here, everyone is a good player, knows how to play football and their responsibilities, so that’s massive going into any game.
“And everyone is so close. It makes you want to play for the lads even more and for the manager.”

Adams and QPR’S Lyndon Dykes have formed a promising partnership, and will be ready if Clarke unleashes the duo from the off. “We both play with two up front at club level, so it’s something we are familiar with,” added Adams, 24.
“A few years ago, I played with a striker at Birmingham City called Lukas Jutkiewicz, who was good in the air and with flick-ons and stuff – and he’s similar to Lyndon.”
