‘FOREST CAN GROW WITH NEW FACES’

- BY Ian Winrow

CHRIS HUGHTON has a week to perform his own Nottingham Forest SOS and possibly save his job into the bargain.

The Forest boss is under real pressure after fans called for his head following their latest defeat at Stoke – their fourth in as many games in the new campaign.

His predecessor Sabri Lamouchi was axed after an identical played four, lost four start to last term.

But Hughton (above), a Championship promotion winner at Newcastle and Brighton, says he is only thinking about adding to his struggling squad before the window shuts. “All we can do is work as hard as we can to get the numbers in – it has been a tough summer with regards to bringing in players,” he said.

“There’s been a big turnaround in terms of recruitment, the squad is a lot younger, we lost 11 players at the end of last season. It is an unforgiving division, we need to have a squad that can cope with the rigours of this division and we don’t have it.

“I’m as disappointed and angry as any supporter, this is my responsibility to get results for this club and with the help of recruitment we’ll do the best that we can.”

After missing out on Bournemouth-bound Manchester City youngster Morgan Rogers, Hughton has brought midfielder James Garner back to the club on loan from Manchester United.

But new blood can not come soon enough for fans who booed their team off again after they failed to register a shot on goal and remain the only side yet to get a point in the division.

Stoke are riding high after Josh Tymon’s first senior goal kept the Potters unbeaten after four games.

He said: “I don’t really get many chances to score and I’m still speechless.

“It’s gone in the back of the net and to be able to celebrate it with fans back is a day I’ll never forget.”
