Actress Yasmin says hit gangland show doesn’t glamorise violence
a Star of the hit crime drama Kin last night declared: “there’s more to the show than gangsters.”
Yasmin Seky, 23, who plays sexy moll Nikita, said the RTE series doesn’t glamorise violence – and that it is just fiction. The Dublin actress slammed critics, adding: “There are just people who don’t like watching things about crime and it’s a crime drama.
“I don’t think it takes a drama for people to look at the glamorous side of that sort of lifestyle.”
KIN star Yasmin Seky last night defended its scenes of torture and murder – and said the powerful series doesn’t glamorise gangland violence.
And Yasmin, who plays gangster’s moll Nikita Murphy, admits she’ll appear in some racy scenes in upcoming episodes.
The 23-year-old was adamant that the show about a Dublin crime family is fiction and not based on reality.
Kin has proved a huge hit, drawing in more than 500,000 viewers last Sunday on RTE One.
Yasmin, from Cabra, Dublin, said: “I don’t think it takes a drama for people to look at the glamorous side of that sort of lifestyle.
“There are just people who don’t like watching things about crime and it’s a crime drama, they’re entitled to their opinion.
“There’s more to the show than just gangsters.”
In last week’s opening episode, a man had his face burnt off with an iron over a drug debt.
While 17-year old boy Jamie, the youngest of the Kinsella clan, played by Cian Fitzsimons, was shot dead in the final moments of the show.
Kin is a gritty drama set in Dublin and already is being hailed as the new Love/hate.
It boasts a stellar cast with Aidan Gillen, Ciaran Hinds, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Emmet Scanlan.
It centres on the powerful Kinsella clan as a family member is killed and they embark on a war with a cartel.
Yasmin, a bank worker in real life, plays Nikita, the partner of gang enforcer Eric “Viking” Kinsella, played by Sam Keeley.
Viking is reckless and with his hotheaded temper and feud with a rival, his life quickly spirals out of control and Nikita is his voice of reason.
The first episode was criticised for scenes of murder and torture.
But Yasmin said there’s more to the series than crime.
She added: “As the story goes on and even in the next episode, people are really going to come back from it and realise the characters are mothers, brothers.
“They’re not only drug dealers and drug dealers’ wives and girlfriends, there is kind of consequences to the actions.”
And Yasmin revealed her clothing will get even more risque.
She added: “One of my favourite outfits from the first night was the fur coat, snakeskin boots and the leather dress. I don’t think her outfits calm down at all. Her outfits are appropriate for Nikita.
“As the series progresses we’ll see more of Nikita’s sexual prowess unveiled.” Yasmin hinted at what is in store for her character.
She added: “Nikita is well aware that she is an attractive woman and sometimes that can help her sway decisions. She’s aware that her sexuality and her looks are also one of her superpowers. If you’re really dying to see Nikita get it on, keep watching.”
Yasmin revealed her bank colleagues have been tuning in.
She added: “Everyone in the bank is dying to see the next episode.
“All I can say is, it’s really more about the aftermath of last week, it was a really big hit and there’ll be a lot about grief.
“But I think it’s the case from episode one, everyone can tell Eric is just the hothead.
“In Nikita’s mind, he probably goes out and has a knock with someone every single weekend.
“I don’t think in her mind she thought it was going to escalate this far.
“I think Nikita knows Eric’s place in the family is going to be at risk, if ever he needed a voice of reason from Nikita, it’s going to be now.”
