THE woman at the centre of the infamous Mr Moonlight love triangle murder trial was recovering last night after she was caught up in a Christmas road smash.

Mary Lowry was behind the wheel of her car when it was in a collision with a motorbike in Co Tipperary on Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs Lowry, 55, was left badly shaken after the incident in which the rider and pillion passenger of the bike – a father and son – were both injured.

The two were taken to hospital for treatment following the collision at Fawnagowan, just a few kilometres outside Tipperary town.

A source said: “It was just an accident. It happens every day. Thankfully nobody was badly hurt.”

Ms Lowry declined to comment at her home in nearby Bansha yesterday afternoon.

A Garda spokesman said: “The driver of the motorbike, a man in his 50s, was taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for his injuries. His pillion passenger, a teenage youth, was taken to University Hospital Limerick.”

The accident involving Ms Lowry comes just weeks after her ex, Patrick Quirke, lost his appeal against the 2019 conviction for the murder of Bobby “Mr Moonlight” Ryan.

Her evidence was key in helping nail him for the killing of the popular DJ.

The widow’s love life was played out in public when farmer Quirke – with whom she previously had a relationship – went on trial for the murder of Mr Ryan in 2019.

The 52-year-old Quirke was finally convicted after the longest trial in the history of the State.
