ALAN Carr and his husband Paul Drayton have announced they will divorce after their 13-year relationship collapsed.

It comes just days before Drayton, 45, is due to be sentenced for drink-driving with a warning that he faces jail.

The couple had been married for three years. A spokesman for the pair said: “Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating. They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways.”

Drayton was more

than four times the legal limit when he was stopped in October in Horsham, West Sussex, three miles from the €3.2million home he shares with 50-year-old Carr.

He weaved across the road and reversed into a police car. Drayton pleaded guilty at Brighton magistrates’ court in November and will be sentenced on Wednesday.

A judge has told him it was a “miracle” that no one was killed in the incident and warned him: “Prepare yourself for a prison sentence.” Chatty Man star Carr has previously told how alcoholic Drayton was struggling to stay sober.

He said: “While I was away filming on location the past few weeks, Paul fell off the wagon and started drinking again.

“When I arrived back from Wales, Paul was covered in scratches and bruises from a drinking binge.”

Carr revealed they were “working together to get the help he needs to get better,” which was the couple’s “number one priority”.

And he told how the Covid lockdowns had tempted Drayton to start drinking again, but added that he was “proud” of him for staying sober.
