ADO’S ON THE CASE

Finale in the grasp of talented Paris winner

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

GROUP 1 winner A Case Of You will be the star attraction in Dundalk tonight, contesting the finale, the Book Online @Dundalkstadium. com Race.

The four-year-old, trained by Ado Mcguinness (inset), was a last-gasp winner of the Prix de l’abbaye at Longchamp last October and hasn’t been seen since finishing fifth behind Golden Pal in the Breeders Cup Sprint in Del Mar in early November.

A Case Of You’s overall form, even before his top-level breakthrough in Paris, is rock-solid and includes a half-length second to Romantic Proposal in the

Flying Five (Group 1) at the

Curragh in September.

He triumphed over this course and distance back in

March, when beating tonight’s chief rival Logo Hunter by three and three-quarter lengths, and is now 3lb. better off with that rival.

Although a Group 1 winner at five furlongs, Ronan Whelan’s mount is as good, if not better, over six. And he should have the measure of his four rivals in a race which features three horses rated more than 100.

Logo Hunter, rated just 1lb. below the selection and receiving 2lb., progressed to win listed events at Naas and Cork last summer but hasn’t raced since finishing fifth to Mooneista in the Group 2 Sapphire at the Curragh last July.

Also in the field is A Case Of You’s stable-companion Current Option, back-to-back winner of the valuable Ahonoora Handicap in Galway who made his stakes-race breakthrough in the Concorde at Tipperary in October. But he might struggle in this company, over six furlongs.

The Sarah Lynam-trained Tyrconnell is a hopeful nap choice to defy top-weight in the one mile View Restaurant At Dundalk Stadium Handicap.

This gelding has won four times on the polytrack and twice at Laytown. And, although his last win was achieved off a mark of 80, he has run well in recent starts off his current mark, finishing sixth to Inflection Point and, most recently, filling fourth spot in a competitive, seven-furlong handicap won by Business. Tyrconnell ticks lots of boxes here – he’s dropping in grade, racing over his optimum trip and from a low draw. And Shane Crosse, who has ridden him to his last three wins, is expected to play his cards late to land the spoils.

And, having filled the runner-up berth on his last three starts, the Michael Halford-trained Elzaamsan might enjoy a change of luck in the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Maiden.

This fellow has bumped into Very Excellent, handicap winner White Marlin and Seattle Creek respectively and deserves to get his head in front.
