Flights will cost €10 from Dublin with Qatar SCHEME SPOKESPERSON

STARTING today, brilliant young Irish people can apply to fly to Australia for just a tenner to get a job in tourism and hospitality.

Oz shut down its border during the Covid-19 pandemic but it has thrown open its doors again and Aussie bosses are now recruiting Irish workers.

A lucky few will be handpicked to jet off from Dublin on Qatar Airways to Adelaide, the coastal capital of South Australia.

A new scheme is being unveiled today to offer Irish and UK residents aged under-30 a chance to work in Oz with a flight for just €10.

Some are calling it the chance of a lifetime, with a spokeswoman for the initiative by Australian tourism bosses revealing the offer is limited to 200 people.

She said: “The initiative from the South Australia Tourism Commission is designed to encourage young people to work in industries like tourism and hospitality that have been starved of labour since the pandemic started.

“A total of 200 return flights to Adelaide for €10 for Irish residents and £10 for UK residents are being made available.

“The scheme is open to anyone in Ireland, aged 18

to 30, who travels on a Working Holiday Visa.” She added: “Flights will cost €10 for Irish citizens and it will be from Dublin, flying Qatar Airways.”

Organisers hope the opportunity to travel and work will help fill employment gaps and skills shortages that hit the Australian economy during the pandemic.

Scheme ambassador John Torode, the Australian chef and TV presenter, said: “Growing up in Australia I was lucky enough to live the Aussie lifestyle every day – hanging out at the beach with mates on days off as a young chef.”

The Masterchef host added: “So many young people in Ireland have been denied the opportunities to travel during the pandemic.”

Eligible applicants can register for the €10 return tickets – which go on sale in May – by registering from today on the southaustralia.com website, according to the organisers.

The spokeswoman said: “A starter pack, including accommodation on arrival, and access to a tax file number and bank account etc, also need to be purchased with the €10 fare from Trailfinders.

“The majority of Working Holiday Visas are being processed quickly, so for those currently without one, there is a window to still apply before the €10 tickets go on sale in May.

“For those who miss out on a €10 ticket, a special follow up fare on Qatar Airways will be released for those travelling to Adelaide before the end of September 2022.”
