ONE OR LEW ARRIVING IN AT DUNDALK

- BY PAUL LENNON

ALFIE LEWIS last night joined

Dundalk who earlier in the day snapped up Robbie Mccourt from Sligo Rovers and Runar Hauge from Hibernian.

But Stephen O’donnell’s hopes of re-signing Mark Connolly from

Dundee United are over with Derry City poised to bring him to the Brandywell.

Lewis, the 22-year-old Londoner, joins on loan from Plymouth Argyle for the rest of the season, so ending St Patrick’s Athletic’s renewed efforts to bring him back to Richmond Park.

Lewis (left) spent more than a decade at West Ham from whom he joined the Saints 18 months ago, enjoying a fine 2021 campaign with O’donnell at the club.

He moved to the English League One club in January but was unable to nail down a place in the side.

“I had a good year under Stevie at Pat’s and that was one of the key decisions to come here,” said Lewis.

“I want to play football and get back playing games and the League of Ireland was a good platform for me to do that last year.”

O’donnell’s quest to keep Connolly continued earlier this week following the centre-half’s return to Tannadice seven days ago when his initial loan stint ended.

But O’donnell (right) has signalled the end of Dundalk’s interest with the Candystripes now in pole position to land the Clones man.

City boss Ruadhri Higgins is keen to bring in an experienced central defender following Eoin Toal’s recent move to Bolton.

Mccourt’s Oriel Park move comes in the wake of his position at Sligo where Paddy Kirk has been preferred at left-back in recent months.

“Once Stevie gave me the call I wanted to jump into the car and come up straight away,” said Mccourt.

Winger Hauge’s arrival at Oriel Park on loan is for five months with the 20-year-old Norwegian on Hibs’ books since last January.

JAMES CLARKE has completed his move from Drogheda United to Bohemians for an undisclosed fee.

The midfielder, 21, joins on a “multi-year” contract.
