VINCENT KOMPANY has admitted he is still getting used to the “unpredictability” of life in the Championship.
The former Manchester City icon watched his Burnley side throw victory away at the Cardiff City Stadium, with Bluebirds striker Callum Robinson heading his first goal for the club in the 90th minute.
It came after Southampton loanee Nathan Tella (above, left) had given the Clarets a deserved lead early in the second half.
Kompany (right) said: “We have lost a big chunk of our squad to internationals and then we have had to prepare for an opponent about which we have very little information.
“There was always going to be some unpredictability about this game. People always say this league is unpredictable but it’s really true. It is so competitive in every game.”
There was a poignant return to the Welsh capital for Kompany’s assistant Craig Bellamy.
The former Wales captain said nothing before or after the game, but speculation he would be the ideal candidate to take over the managerial reins at his former club refuses to go away.
Kompany said: “He’s got to answer that question but I back myself to surround myself with good staff and he’s one of them.
“I completely expect many of my staff members to be mentioned in many places in the future.”
Bluebirds striker Robinson reflected on opening his account for his new side in dramatic circumstances, after moving from West Brom in the last transfer window.
“It was a lovely feeling to get off the mark quite quickly in my
Cardiff City career,” said Robinson.
“The draw felt like a win in the dressing room afterwards against such a quality side.
“I’ve got targets but that’s for me to know – I’ll let you know at the end of the season if I hit them.
“Pressure is a privilege. I know I need to score goals and get assists but I know my style of always being involved means the goals and assists will always come.
“I won’t change my style, it’s how I operate.
“At West Brom I was in and out, and now it will be nice to hopefully have a run of games in the next six weeks.
“I need to get to know the lads more and gel with the team more.
“It will be a long, hard season for us, but there is a lot of talent in this Cardiff squad and also a lot of hungry players.
“The gaffer has told us that we have now proved we can get a result against a top team.
“What we need now is some consistency with results.”
