HAT’S OFF TO BOWLER THE SUPER SUB

- Huddersfield BY SHANE MACDERMOTT

SUPER SUB Josh Bowler starred with an assist and a last-minute equaliser as 10-man Blackpool twice came back to frustrate Huddersfield at

Bloomfield Road.

Matty Pearson’s first league goal for 17 months put the Terriers on course for a priceless win.

And when Seasiders’ striker Gary Madine was sent off for elbowing defender Tom Lees in first-half injurytime, the writing looked on the wall for the hosts.

But Nottingham Forest loan winger Bowler teed-up fellow replacement Andy Lyons for a spectacular 82nd-minute leveller.

Midfielder Josh Koroma fired the Terriers back in front with just four minutes remaining after some poor defending from the home side.

However, there was still time for Bowler (celebrating, above) to slot home and complete a remarkable comeback.

Both clubs were desperate for maximum points, especially Blackpool boss Mick Mccarthy as he took charge of his first home game of the season and looked to end a run of two defeats in a row since taking over the hot seat.

The Terriers were gunning for their first away win since Boxing Day and to end a miserable run of four league games without a win.

Ironically, Pearson’s last league goal came in a 3-0 away win over

Blackpool in September 2021.

And when Madine was given his marching orders for a moment of madness, few would have backed Blackpool to salvage anything.

Credit to Lyons, his thunderbolt laid the foundations for a frantic finish. Koroma almost instantly restored the Terriers’ lead but Bowler kept his cool to salvage a point.

Shot-stopper skipper Chris Maxwell saved well from Terriers hitman Martyn Waghorn, while Jerry Yates blasted wide for Blackpool. But it was Bowler’s brilliance which capped a spirited comeback.
