SNEYD MAKES A MARC WITH HIS LUCKY 13

- Salford Hull FC BY JULIE STOTT

MARC SNEYD steered Salford home with a superb 13-point display to lift them up to sixth.

The scrum-half scored one try and kicked four goals plus a drop goal to snuff out his old club Hull.

He also came up with a touch of magic, kicking straight from a scrum in his own half, to set up full-back Ryan Brierley for another try.

Hull coach Tony Smith said: “Everyone in the stadium thought that kick was coming from Sneyd except for my team.

“There were screams from all over the sidelines to watch the kick but we did not stay switched on for that.

“These things can make a big difference but I am not going to hammer my players.”

Red Devils coach Paul Rowley said: “I’d like to claim that one but it’s all on the players – Sneydy’s kick was a fantastic 60-metre pin-point kick and then Ryan Brierley showed unbelievable pace. Sneyd’s game management and the way he went about his business was unbelievable. He showed a cool head.” Tenth-placed Hull, who were trounced 60-14 by Salford in March, led twice in the first half with tries from Jake Clifford and Jake Trueman. But Salford hit back with touchdowns from Tyler Dupree (celebrating above), Deon Cross and the Sneyd-inspired cracker from Brierley for a 18-10 lead.

Hull again drew first blood at the start of the second half with a Darnell Mcintosh try on the back of a Brodie Croft knock-on from the kick-off.

Sneyd steadied the home side’s nerves with a converted try only for a soft Josh Griffin try to again put Hull within two points midway through the half. But with eight minutes left Ken Sio raced in at the corner to keep Salford in control.

Sneyd missed the conversion, landed a drop goal and then ended an eventful display by getting sin-binned late on for a professional foul.

Smith added: “The effort and spirit was not in question. The execution and concentration let us down a couple of times but that is what can happen in very hot, tough games.”
