OSCAR winner Russell Crowe has paid tribute to his pal Ryan Tubridy after he bowed out of the Late Late Show for the final time.

The Gladiator star was a regular guest on the chat show – and he famously scolded the audience for their clapping skills in 2015 while performing Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison on the programme.

The Hollywood star described the Dubliner’s contribution to the Friday night RTE programme as “enormous”.

In a video message posted from The Espy Hotel in Melbourne, Crowe, 59, said: “Every single time I’ve come on the show, I’ve loved it. I loved the vibe.

“I love what you have done and what you have achieved.”

He recalled his time with the RTE presenter and said they are now “mates” as they have enjoyed some tennis and had the “odd drink or two”.

The actor even got a large crowd in the hotel where he was performing to give a cheer of “good luck Ryan” following his exit.

CONTRIBUTION

Crowe added: “An Irish institution, his contribution has been enormous.

“All the best for the adventures ahead Ryan.”

Tubridy said an emotional farewell last Friday night on his final show as host, which included some tearful moments.

He welcomed back some memorable children from the last 14 years.

And he even got a video message from Beatles legend Paul Mccartney, who wished him well for the future.

Tubridy thanked his mother, Catherine, who he said supported him right from the start of his career.

He told how she loved showing up on set to meet stars backstage during the show.

The 50-year-old presenter dedicated his 14 years on the show to his daughters Ella and Julia.
