‘INTER NEED BEST GAME TO PUT CITY THROUGH MIL’

- BY JOHN CROSS

SAMIR HANDANOVIC admits Inter Milan will have to produce “the performance of their lives” to beat Manchester City.

Inter captain Handanovic also believes the Champions League final “will be tough” for City, despite Pep Guardiola’s men being hot favourites to win in Istanbul and complete the Treble.

Veteran Handanovic (lifting the Coppa Italia trophy after last month’s win, above) said: “Let’s say it is a more difficult exam for a player, the Champions League final is the top of the top.

“We need the best performance of the season, or even of our lives, but it’ll be tough for them, too.”

Keeper Handanovic, 38, started Inter’s 1-0 win at Torino on Saturday, which was the final game of their Serie A season, but faces an uncertain future as he is out of contract after the Champions League final.

Inter head into the game in brilliant form, having won 11 of their last 12 games in all competitions going into their first European Cup final since they won it under Jose Mourinho in 2010.

Handanovic added: “We are in good shape, even if it was the last game of the Serie A season, we wanted to end well and put quality on to the pitch.

“I don’t know what will happen on my future yet, there is still work to prepare for the game, then we’ll think about personal matters.”

Inter boss Simone Inzaghi said: “Now we have this great Champions League dream, we go there to play our best against a side with immense quality.

“We must suffer together when it’s the moment to do that, play football to take possession off Manchester City, attack with balance.

“It’s a huge challenge that we await anxiously. We’ll have this week to prepare in the best way.”
