The new “grown up” Love Island is a long way from the young one.
Not only is it filming in Midhurst, West Sussex – which is around 1,000 miles away from the villa in Majorca – it’s also got a more classy vibe as it is based in the €10.1million stately home Viola House.
Which is a lot more sophisticated than the children’s castle the 20-somethings carried out their latest challenge in on last night’s episode of the ITV2 series.
The upcoming show will put single parents looking for love a little later in life at “the most romantic countryside location” after being nominated by their grown-up children.
The 11-bedroom property sits within a sprawling 50 acres of the stunning South Downs, so there will be lots of space to sneak off for a bit of privacy. It also features an indoor pool, its own spa, tennis courts, stables and a private section of river – handy if any of them fancy getting their tackle out for a bit of fishing.
The show had a working title of The Romance Retreat, but this is likely to change now filming has started over the past few weeks. It will air on ITV.
Davina Mccall will be fronting the series, after she called for a “middle-aged Love Island” and promptly got her wish.
She said in January that she had contacted ITV to request a “grownup” version of the show, saying older singletons would have better backstories, adding: “They’ve lived a life, they’re widows, they’re people who have been through horrific divorces.
“They are people who have split up with somebody and decided they want to try and go out with somebody of the same sex as them, like interesting people.”
They signed her up to host immediately, and she enthused: “This is a show for single parents who have lived a life and deserve another chance at love.”
