Man in 40s faces manslaughter quiz

A MAN has been arrested in con- nection with the workplace death of Gogglebox star George Gilbey.
The 40-year-old reportedly died after a fall from height at a domestic goods factory on Wednesday.
Essex Police said: “As part of our ongoing investigation into the death of a man in Campfield Road, Shoebury, we have arrested a man in their 40s from the Witham area on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
“This is a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive and our inquiries are ongoing.”
George appeared on the Channel 4 TV commentary series alongside mum Linda Mcgarry and stepdad Pete, who died aged 71 in 2021. He also featured in the 14th series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2014, which was won by American film star Gary Busey.
A bouquet of flowers could be seen at the gates to EGL Homecare in Shoebury yesterday. The site appeared to be open and functioning but no one was seen working on the roof where George fell to his death.
He had been working as an electrician, according to reports. A Gogglebox spokesman said after his death: “George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and stepdad Pete.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda and George’s family and friends at this very sad time. “The family have asked for privacy.” Former Geordie Shore star Ricci Guarnaccio, who also appeared in Celebrity Big Brother with George in 2014, said: “Breaks my heart but George Gilbey, you are well and truly going to be missed my friend.
“Always lit up the room, cared for others and the memories we made I’ll cherish for ever, brother.”
A spokesman for the HSE said: “We are aware of the incident and working with Essex Police in their investigation.”
